Learn how to teach abstract concepts in concrete ways using LEGOs!

Do your students know what air is made of? What percentage is oxygen? What happens chemically when things burn? Understanding Air uses LEGO compatible bricks as atoms to build a model of air and then combust fuel models to produce additional carbon dioxide and pollutants.

Do your students know what ocean acidification is? How does toxic mercury pollution make its way into our oceans and then into human bodies? Understanding Oceans emphasizes important chemical reactions in the ocean using LEGO compatible bricks for modeling atoms.

Join us with guest facilitator Amanda Mayer from the MIT Edgerton Center as she walks you through these LEGO molecule modules. Each participating teacher will receive 10 student sets of LEGO compatible bricks to allow your entire class to Understand Air and Understand Oceans using this incredible curriculum. This workshop is part of the STEMAZing Workshop Series. The STEMAZing Project’s philosophy on teacher professional development is simple: It must be hands-on and engaging – putting the educators in the seat of the students to experience STEM lessons firsthand. It must provide the educators with the equipment and supplies they need to implement the lessons and activities in their classrooms the next day if they choose. It must be facilitated by master educators who have themselves been in the classroom.
