Summary: If someone you know was considering suicide, would you be able to recognize the warning signs and know how to help?

QPR Gatekeeper Training is an evidence-based suicide prevention training suitable for anyone and everyone. QPR is NOT intended to be a form of counseling or treatment. QPR is intended to offer hope through positive action. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency intervention to someone in crisis and can save lives.

Following this training, you will:

  • Know how to recognize the common warning signs of suicide,
  • How to Question, Persuade, and Refer someone who may be considering suicide, and...
  • Be empowered to offer hope and act quickly to avoid a possible tragedy.

According to the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (2001), a gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. A gatekeeper can be anyone: parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide. Following this training, you will be certified as a QPR Gatekeeper for 2 years.

This training is brought to you by the Community Mental Health and Addiction Program with the Pima County Health Department FREE of charge (normally $30)! Seating is Limited.

Details: 90-minute training. Includes registration to a QPR Gatekeeper Student portal with access to resources and continuing practice and education.
